September 2007

Back in Fabulous last night. The last time I’ve been there was three months ago. I felt very different. Same group of people, different feeling.

It was always drama in Fabulous. When the group comes together in Fabulous, there will never be short of dramas. Last night there was absolutely no dramas. The only drama was something traumatic happened to Vasu. Beside that, it was a beautiful night. The feeling that I felt was friendship, absolute pure friendship.

It was loud in the pub, yet I felt extreme peace with myself. There was drama in other tables, yet it was drama-less in ours. There was fun and laughter from other people, we do have our laughter, and I also felt a strong tie of friendship in us.

Maybe it was the strong bonding that we had, I felt a sense of stableness in our group. A very stable and steady energy exudes from us.

All of you are a bunch of extra-ordinary friends. It’s my honour to know all of you.

The world has more than enough for everyone. There are enough money, food, opportunities to go around. Do I really believe that? Without a shadow of doubt, I believe that there is abundance.

Abundance comes when you believe it exists, same as scarcity. Having a scarcity mindset will drives a scarcity behaviour. People betraying their integrity, friends, partners to have more is totally operate from scarcity mindset.

Right now I have the feeling of abundance. Many business opportunities are coming my way. I am so afraid now that I can’t handle them all.

But I can’t remain in the fear state, because fear drives away the good feelings. I know jolly well that I can do more than what I thought I could do.

Abundance is now with me, I am thankful that I am experiencing abundance.

How many times have you forgot saying “thank you“? I forgotten to say “thank you” many times. Sometimes I’m so caught up with life that I stopped having the feeling of gratitude. Yes, I am justifying. Aren’t you having the same issue as me? Busy with your work so much so that you forgot to appreciate.

Do you tends to focus on the things that you don’t have? Or chasing after the things that you do not own? This focusing on things that we do not have isn’t going to make us very happy. This may be the cause of all unhappiness. It is going to make us either angry person or sad person.

By shifting your focus on to what you do have, change the way you look at things. Now by focusing on the things you do have allows you to feel contented. By saying thank you to whoever gave you those things will allow you to attract more.

Imagine you present a gift to a good friend of yours. This friend took the gift, walked away without appreciating your kind gesture, would you want to give this friend another gift.

On the other hand, if this friend whispered a gentle thank you into your ears, would you want to offer him another gift the next time you see him.

I will make today a Thank You Day. I will be consciously grateful of all the things that happen today. It start from now. I am thankful that someone invented the internet and the blog so that I can write my thoughts and feelings here.

And I am thankful that you are reading this post now. Thank you.

tell the truth

Tell The Truth With Compassion

What is the truth? Someone mentioned that if he has a business idea, how much truth (the business idea) should he shared with others, just in case others will copy his idea? In this context, the truth may not be the business ideas but something more profound.

How do we tell the truth with compassion? How do we tell the truth without hurting others? Has it got to do with intention of telling? You have to come from wanting to support and help the person. It must not comes from the ego side of you. Wanting to make the other person wrong does not help in supporting the others.

Coming from compassion. How? How do we know it is coming from compassion? You know it by the essence and the words you used. Another point of view is we can slap the person hard yet comes from a total compassion mode. So compassion doesn’t mean communicating nicely or softly but truthfully. You may communicate in a hard way but totally comes from a supporting angle. The question is by going in forcefully, will it back fire?

So what if you present the truth with compassion, but that person takes it too hard or couldn’t accept it. This flipchart “tell the truth with compassion” is weigh more towards the deliverer than the receiver. The role of the deliverer is to present the truth, he doesn’t care what the receiver’s reaction. Deliverer just tell the truth. The delivery is not responsible for the reaction of the receiver.

Many a times, we are too concern about hurting the other party that we hold back presenting the truth to them. This happens in relationship, in business, in friendship etc.

We didn’t realize that by holding back, we are not allowing our partners and friends to have a chance to grow. We are not being supportive by hiding the truth from them. It seems that we are trying not to hurt their feelings, yet on the flip side, we are actually hurting them by allowing them to behave in a certain way that doesn’t serves them.

Have you been holding back all the time? Is telling the truth hard for you? Are you trying to be Mr or Mrs Nice? Are you not allowing the person close to you to grow by hiding the truth from them? Is it time to tell the truth with compassion?

Back from Business School For Entrepreneurs (BSE). Powerful powerful program. BSE helps me to discover so much about myself, learn so much about business and leadership.

Though I do know a little bit of leadership before I attend the program, but that was not enough. In the program, I got to truly understand leadership. It is more of giving than receiving, it’s more of “you” than “I”. Most importantly, it’s about bringing the best out of you than making me famous.

I will rather have compliments for the team than to have spotlight on me.

It is totally understandable that ego will get the better of a leader. Being in front, doing the leading work, getting the praises can get you over the head. I admit I was once like that. I felt awesome when I received small notes with “You are a leader” from team members.

In this BSE, I didn’t get any small notes from anyone, but I received more than this. I received something very special from my team mates. It is so special that it will remind me what is true leadership.

Ever heard of this program, Business School For Entrepreneur (BSE)? I’m heading to Kuala Lumpur for this 8-days program.

I’m feeling excited yet felt a tinkle feeling of fear. The reason is I know what the program is going to be like. I may have to face myself in situation that will occur in the program.

It is an experiential program, unlike the University or Diploma type of entrepreneurship courses, which are mostly theoretical.

This is the type of programs that I like. It should be experiential, as humans learn most from doing. When you tell a kid the fire can hurt him, he would never understand it, until he touches the fire.

Learning about business is the same. It’s about doing and practicing. Unfortunately some schools are stuck in their traditional way of teaching. Students must sit in a classroom listening to the lecturer’s boring lesson. And in some cases, the lecturer has no prior experiences to business. Isn’t this irony?

Someone who has never started a business teaching about business. Someone who has never be in the sales line teaching how to sell.

That’s why I can never be a school teacher. I must be congruent in order to be effective. That’s why I’m started a training company. I choose what I want to teach, love it this way.

I will be back on the 23 Sep. In the mean time, I will enjoy myself in the program, learn as much as I can.

An unusual morning! A morning with breakfast in a nearby coffee shop with Jean. Usually I will take my breakfast at home but this morning Jean suggested we have our breakfast somewhere else.

We gone into a nice conversation. Quite a bit of sharing especially on things that she wishes to know.

I feel good too. My life is usually full of doingness all the time. Seldom do I sit down and chat about my thoughts and feelings. It kind of made my day fulfilled.

Thanks Jean for the suggestion.

Another interesting discussion and sharing session on the Money & You lesson.

Your Response

The sharing started with the question, “what creates your response?”

The answer is, or rather all of us agree that it’s the sub-conscious. The sub-conscious is program by our environment, our past experiences, what we see, hear, smell or touch. However, do we have some natural programming that is not from the environment?

Natural responses like, when we are hungry, we will look for food. When we need to procreate, we look for sex.

When does sub-conscious started to form? Someone shared that the subconscious started developing after the age of five. So does that mean before the age of five, our response is based on our true feeling?

Based on our past experiences, all of us had different programmings on our sub-conscious which resulted in different responses for different people in the same situation. That’s why we see different results when we played the games in the Money & You room.

The next question is, can the programming be changed? Some say no, some say yes. A better word we found will be “reload” or “reprogramming.”

One of the method of this reprogramming which Tony Robbins had practiced is to drive you to a traumatic experience or extreme pain.

We moved on to a bigger picture. The whole world is a big programming computer doing its work to program us. The advertisements that may lead us to perceive certain values on a particular brand. The religion that want us to behave in certain ways. These are programming tools that wants us to believe in what they are preaching.

A very interesting question popped up. “How do we know that we are not trapped by programming?”

Having the self confidence to stand firm, not easily swayed by opinions of others. You may want to start asking better questions too. Some see a situation and say, “I can’t.” Some say, “why not?”

A quote by George Bernard Shaw that may helped us not to be trapped by programming.

Some men see things as they are and ask why. Others dream things that never were and ask why not.

Are you absorbing everything that others say without thinking on your own? Are you being program by other? There is no right or wrong programming. The question is, does your programming serves you or not?

Had my usual football session on Sunday. We were playing in the artificial field which is smaller, therefore it increases the pressure and speed of the game. When anyone get the ball, the opposing player will close him down very quickly. This make the game much more intense; the player with the ball got to have some tricks up his sleeve and composure.

Why I love so much about football, because it’s not only a training of physical stamina and skill, it’s also a training of mental. When I get the ball, I got to make a decision in split second. To pass (pass to who), to dribble (dribble left or right), to shoot, to look for opening etc. There may be ten things going through my mind when I get the ball.

At times of the game, you got to attack; at times, you got to hold possession, re-group, find the opponent’s weakest point. At any point of time, you got to read the game as a whole, look at your players, look at the options around you. Some players have the habit of focusing on the ball when they got the ball, thus missing out other options around them. When they focus only on the ball, their only options is to dribble.

Football is like running a business or conducting a class. Making decision, reading the game or focusing, both have similarities.

Anyhow, due to performing too much tricks, twisting and turning around, I twisted my ankle. I thought it was not that serious, should not feel that painful after a night of rest. But this morning I woke up, I can feel the tightness around my ankle.

I believe this will take a few days to heal and I’ll be up again.
