An Entrepreneur’s Journey

Dennis, Clive and myself had another round of meeting. We were suppose to discuss on the commission plan on getting on people to operate the ice cream business. Before we begin, Dennis brought up a very good point. For a minute, I had a second thought on taking over the management of the extra van.

I calm myself down, think about it, my decision remains unchanged - take over that van. Yes, it’s a lot more work for the next 2 to 3 weeks. Yes, time is not on our side to find the right people. This is a challenge to overcome. We can crack our brain, learn something out of it, or we can walk away. Anyhow, by walking away, it doesn’t affect our initial plan. We had that opportunity to let that van go. But I ask myself, “are we taking the easy route?”

That moment when I had that question in my head, I made a decision.

In the end we come to a conclusion, we are going to take the harder way. Typical entrepreneurs!!! Constantly creating a bigger problem…haha.

But I glad I did.

Had a meeting at Jus Media regarding with the ice cream business. A good and bad news was announce to us. The ice cream is still out of stock until 8 Nov. Bad news because we can’t sell, and it means a lose of income. Good news because some of our activities this week are not affected. Like previews and training sessions etc.

Then we had another good and bad news. One of the team is pulling out. They don’t want to be involve in this business anymore. Bad news - it may affect the ice cream sales as a whole. Good news - we will take over that extra van. That is to say whatever we have (generator, freezer, van etc) is increase by 100%.

So our role took a sudden turn. We could not run 2 vans on our own now. We have to start hiring. From doing only the ground work initially, now we raise the level to managing, training others. The ultimate ideal scenario is to have these 2 vans running without our presence.

Our challenge comes when we need to hire 8 people in a span of 1 week. We need to train, educate them another week, and off they are into business. Time is definitely not on our side. While we are cracking our head on this good challenge, we are also having that excitement feeling. The three of us agreed that this is the path of entrepreneurship, challenge after challenge.

Suddenly we thought of something we said last week. We mentioned that if we are to increase our profit, we have to find leverage, get 1 more generator, 2 more freezer etc. Basically 1 more set of everything.

And NOW, it happened. The Law of attraction is so freaky scaring sometimes. Be careful what you wish for, it really will happen.

Though it seems to be a challenge, Clive reminded us. “Have Faith.” Thanks Clive.

What an exciting week? There are meetings, previews, training and preparation. I broke record by reading 3 books in 3 days. I exercised the “power read” that I acquired in BSE. I got to submit the training notes on Friday. It was rushing to complete it for the whole week. Once again it proofs that when human being is under stress, they can perform extra ordinary result.

Though I’m rushing out the training notes, I also went to support Dennis in EAP preview. It was his first time doing it, it was so nice watching someone new and raw conducting the session, and then seeing them becoming better.

It was a joy to see new people going up to the stage, speaking and challenging themselves. There are many others new guys who went up on stage for the first time. The age is getting younger and younger. The youngest, 19.

Another reason to support was because another of my brother, Clive was also the preview speaker that night. Of course, he is very good in it, and he’s getting better each time.

I felt energize when three of us get together. There is an indescribable feeling when we gather together. All of us felt the same way. We all agree that it was synergy. I knew Dennis for a while, we had been through ups and down, our friendship almost ended up in the toilet bowl. In BSE, we rekindled this friendship. I am also glad that I get to know Clive better in BSE. We were the “hi-bye” friends. Never did I expect our friendship can be this close. I learned so much from this new friend. When the three musketeers get together, learnings, jokes, fun flows like the hudson river.

Then I had training in CHIJ again. A short one but fun. Again thank you David for involving me. I just can’t thank you enough, David. You are really a true master in what you do, a true mentor who has no hold back in guiding me.

At this stage, I am enjoying my life. The biggest joy for me was to know that I am flowing in life.

While we enjoy a brief bull run in the stock market, Monday the stock market went crashing down a bit. I am sure some of my close friends are not worried because they are value investor. But there are other friends who are day trader. This might have affect them pretty much.

This is the result of the US sub-prime housing loan. Lenders are unable to repay their mortgage payment due to the increasing interest rate. They are unable to sell the houses because of the mad property prices, no one wants to buy. The bank can’t do a foreclosure, they will lose more money if they do that. It seems to be a nice happy ending, now it turns out to be a nightmare for some.

Is stock market the only implication from this whole episode? Strait Times on Monday stated a few other implications.

Companies are reducing their recruitment, reviewing their plans for expansion. Let’s face the fact, building of houses are going to reduce tremendously. Who are affected? The developers, the contractors, sub-contractors, (plumbers, electrician etc), furniture makers, household items seller and many more.

Companies are reducing their hiring by more than 40%. No, they are not downsizing yet, but they stop hiring.

Well, this is in US, it doesn’t concern me. I don’t think so. US is still the main driving force in economic around the world, though I do not know when it is going to end. But one thing I am so sure, if a country is driven by debt, sooner or later it is going to be caught up. What they are doing is just delaying and delaying the worst.

Being the main driving force behind the economic world, it has a high chance that its ripple will reach here. It has happened before. It was said that recession happened every 13 years. That was without internet. With internet, everything speeds up, maybe even cycle of recession.

You can continue to be in your comfort zone and wait for things to happen, or do something for yourself before it happen.

Fun loving theme park? Not for me. Adventurous theme park? Definitely my cup of tea.

I know there are some theme park that is mainly for kids, and most of the rides are happy and joyful without any screaming, coins dropping off from pockets etc. These are not exciting for me.

I needed theme park that feed my drama, period. Unfortunately in Singapore, there isn’t any that can do that yet. The best I ever experienced was in Taiwan.

I just saw another one in UK, Blackpool. It was said to be the oldest theme park in UK. When I look at their rides, I can feel myself being 10 years younger, my heart beat goes like 120 per minute. Which is my favourite ride? Without shadow of doubt, it must be the Infusion

A Blackpool Restaurant is situated in the park. It seems to me I can be really relax in the restaurant.

Now I have another dream in my life. That is to visit this oldest theme park in UK.
